Roberts Jackson donates IT hardware to Styal School Play Pod

On hearing that Styal School in Cheshire was building a Play Pod to encourage imaginative play amongst its 110 pupils, Kevin Smith of Roberts Jackson thought he could help.

As Head of the Industrial Disease specialist’s IT department, Kevin knew that the overhaul of IT systems and hardware at the firm would mean finding a new home for the older used items.

Roberts Jackson, based in Wilmslow, is very active in raising money for local as well as international causes, and it was agreed that the donation of keyboards, computer screens, headsets and telephones, should be made.

The Play Pod is now up and running and is open to the children from 12.30 every lunch time.   According to the school, the Play Pod has been a great success:

“The imaginative play which we have already seen, in the space of 6 lunchtimes is incredible, and every day is different.  We have already noticed that the children are much more engaged in play (as a result there are less friendship issues), they are playing new games, on a daily basis, and they are choosing to play with new people, irrespective of age.”

Kevin explained his motivation to help the school:

“Encouraging children to play, use their imagination and build relationships with others is so important. Finances for resources in schools are tight, so when I was asked if we could help, the answer was ‘definitely yes’. Seeing the benefits of the donation is heart-warming and it is nice to be able to support our local community.”

Roberts Jackson Associate, Nimish Patel, has recently visited the school to provide a talk on what life is like as a lawyer. He covered the in's and out's of what a lawyer actually does on a day to day basis. Nimish also ran through the requirements of joining the legal profession in an attempt to provoke the younger generations to consider the career choice in future.

Needless to say, Nimish’s attempts to encourage pupils from the school to become the budding lawyers of the future appeared to have worked when several of the pupils attended a dress up day the following Friday dressed as solicitors.
